First Church of the Nazarene

4400 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

This project is a Community Center Addition with a Multipurpose Center, Kitchen, large Restrooms, and 3 new Classrooms.  It was originally designed by a medium sized MEP firm.

The job was over budget and that is when Larry Hinton of Hinton Refrigeration hired me to redesign the HVAC.  The first thing I did was calculate the cooling loads.  The original design had 103 tons of cooling.  However, my design had only 66 tons of cooling and included ample safety factor.  I changed the original design from 4 Large rooftop units with VAV controls to 9 rooftop units with individual thermostat control.  Reducing the cooling by 37 tons and simplifying the controls gave the owner an easier system to maintain and saved them a very significant amount of money.
